Liv Lovejoy is an urbanist and environmentalist whose work involves community planning, smart growth, public participation and education, and resiliency.Uplift Neighborhoods is a passion project. As a native Elmiran, Liv has always dreamed of an Elmira people are proud of, and a county that is considered more than a gateway to somewhere else. Liv has traveled across the country and beyond, getting inspired by the ways different communities operate, improve, and thrive.Uplift Neighborhoods seeks to understand the needs and desires of our local communities and work with them to build equitable, resilient, self-sufficient neighborhoods. We believe in an informed and knowledgeable public that knows what to fight for and how to fight for it. The power of community is unmatched!

Green spaceThe integration of nature into the urban environment that can draw people outside and foster social interactions, improve walkability and quality of life, and reduce urban heat islands.
WalkabilityThe ability to safely walk* to essential services and amenities within a reasonable distance, usually taking less than 30 minutes.
Heat IslandsUrbanized areas with significantly higher temperature due to a greater density of infrastructure, like buildings and roads, that absorb and re-emit the sun’s heat more than natural landscapes such as forests and water bodies.
